Biography

Fahmida Azim is a distinguished illustrator and storyteller whose narratives delve into the intricate tapestry of identity, culture, and autonomy. Her exceptional talent has garnered widespread recognition, with her art prominently featured in renowned publications such as The New York Times, NPR, Glamour, Scientific American, The Intercept, Vice, and more.

A recipient of both the Pulitzer Prize and the Golden Kite Award, Fahmida’s body of work spans editorial illustration, graphic journalism, and captivating children’s books. Through her graphic journalism, Fahmida sheds light on complex social, political, and systemic inequities, offering a deeply personal perspective on pressing issues.

Born in Bangladesh and raised in the United States, Fahmida Azim earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Arts from VCU. Currently based in Seattle, Washington, she continues to push the boundaries of her craft. Notably, Fahmida has illustrated several books, with her groundbreaking project “Muslim Women Are Everything” challenging stereotypes and empowering through representation.

Fahmida finds joy in illustrating real people living extraordinary lives and crafting narratives around fictional characters leading beautifully ordinary lives. Her passion for storytelling is mirrored in her ongoing project—a debut graphic novel titled “Mega Megha,” slated for release by Scholastic Graphix in 2025.
